New York - September 7, 2012

Slept in super late before getting ready and heading to CLAIR New York's office. Matt was there but Kaneshi-san was sick and Hotaka-san was on vacation. So we met the Executive Director, Ogata-san and Washioka-san, the Assistant Director. We traded Omiyage and then went to Ali Baba's Turkish restaurant. The food was excellent and great portions for lunch! We got a dip with bread to start and a plate with the meal of our choice, salad and rice. Then Ogata-san insisted that we get dessert too! It was delicious.

Saying good bye to CLAIR NY and Melissa we walked down to the Flatiron building and Mario Batali's Eatily. It's basically half restaurant, half Italian Specialty store.

Caught the train back to Rockafeller station and went to Saks Fifth Avenue to look around. Then went to Saint Patrick's Cathedral across the street.

Next we made a run to Times Square to do some of the shopping we kept putting off. I got Scott's christmas present and some chocolate for work.

Dropped off our shopping at the hotel before running to Union Square to meet Melissa. Union Square is where Occupy Wall Street moved to. A lot of protests happen there apparently. We saw a tapdancing-for-charity woman who was suddenly joined by a chicken with maracas. Then the chicken went and joined in with the Hare Krishnas.

Chicken!

We stopped at a Japanese restaurant called Village Yokocho. Very good authentic Japanese. We ate a lot more than we intended to!

Finally we headed to Fuerza Bruta. I'm not sure how to describe the show... It was like a combo dance-party, feast-for-your-eyes. The man on the treadmill running through walls of cardboard boxes. The dancers on a platform playing with squares of styrofoam. Two women chasing each other on the walls made of silver tarp. Getting sprayed by a DJ with a hose. A "pool" lowered over your head while women in sundresses dance and use it as a Slip 'n Slide above your head. After the show we got our picture taken with the guy on the treadmill!

We met Mel's boyfriend and her friend Ana at a nearby Starbucks before moving on to a Spanish/Mexican restaurant that Mel and her friends used to frequent because it stays open really late. Coppelia. We got some drinks and snacks and our waitress completely disappeared. Took a while to get out of there.
